A dialog that merges several categories into one target, blocks choosing the target as a source and states how many items will change before it confirms. Use this when duplicate categories must be folded together.

When to use it

Use it for catalogue, ticket and tag clean-ups where duplicates have to be combined and the effect should be clear before it happens.

Do not use it for moving one item (use recategorize-items) or for renaming (use taxonomy-editor).

Accessibility

Modal dialog; focus moves in and returns to the trigger.
The consequence (items moved, categories removed) is in a polite live region and in the confirm button's name.
The target shows as locked and "(target)" in the source tree, so it cannot be merged into itself.

Testing

The pattern ships with a Testing Library test (category-merge-dialog.test.tsx) that covers the disabled state, the summary, the target lock and confirming.
