Duplicate File Detection

Before uploading, files that match one already in the list (same name and size, optionally same content hash) are flagged and the person chooses Skip or Keep both for each, with "apply to all". Use this when people re-add the same file by accident.

When to use it

Uploads accumulate over sessions and the same file is easy to add twice.

Do not use it when: If the server already dedupes by content hash, tell the person the file exists instead of asking.

hashFile(file) is exported (SHA-256 hex, or null where SubtleCrypto is unavailable).

Accessibility

Duplicates appear in a labelled region with a heading that counts them; each row says why it matched (identical content, or same name and size) and has buttons named after the file.
"Apply my next choice to all" is a labelled checkbox, so a long list of conflicts is one decision, not twenty.
Results are announced in a polite status ("Skipped b.txt.", "0 added, 1 to decide.").

The pattern ships with a Testing Library test (upload-duplicate-detection.test.tsx) that covers: its main behaviour, the keyboard path and the error or empty states.
